Reflection on preliminary minor task (poster and social media page)

Image
The preliminary task for the Poster advertisement and social media page was mainly to test our editing and design skills. The poster advertisement task was an aesthetic poster done for Billie Eilish’s album Happier Than Ever, which follows a very beige and minimalist design. When planning the movie poster advertisement, I was aiming for the poster to look like a Pinterest aesthetic collage (which is a trending method to advertise a particular product or movie). Many people get drawn to movies when they see the plot described and an aesthetic but vague manner. For example: Using Adobe Photoshop, I was successfully able to compile all the pictures and edit the backgrounds, allowing me to achieve the effect I was going for. However, I had difficulties in overlaps and removing certain parts of pictures I wanted to use, which then led me to not use the picture at all, reducing my options. I will be working on advancing my Photoshop skills to allow me to successfully discard the feature...

Preliminary task: social media page

Image
The second minor task of the Advanced portfolio short film package involves creating a social media page which is used to advertise and give a hint to the audience on the genre and aesthetic of the film. I had found a website on which I got an Instagram page template and was planning on editing that through Photoshop, but was unable to do so. Hence, for the preliminary exercise, I had decided to use Canva (until I got used to the Photoshop software) in order to create the social media page  I had compiled a couple of pictures of posters on my movie genre/topic, and arranged them in Canva to look like an Instagram page (copied an already existing template).  This is the final result

Preliminary Task 2: postcard (final post & editing process)

As part of my A Level Media Studies coursework, I completed a preliminary exercise in designing a film poster using Adobe Photoshop. The goal of this task was to enhance my understanding of visual communication, layout design, and the conventions of film marketing materials. This exercise helped me develop both practical and analytical skills needed for the main production task later in the course. Previously, for my foundation portfolio, we had not utilized Photoshop in any task. In class, we learned certain basic skills required for Photoshop. For my preliminary task, I have decided to design a poster to showcase the aesthetic for Billie Eilish's album: Happier Than Ever (Below is the reference picture) This was the online YouTube course I had made use of to learn the overall software: https://youtu.be/xTzvQkOll2U?si=K9lBsnMVLwrkmwTc According to the album cover and this sample aesthetic picture (from Pinterest), the album follows an extremely minimalist design and mostly beige ...

Reflection on preliminary major task

Image
The preliminary exercise of the major task was a short film showcasing the filming angles and editing skills. The film showcased the actor walking towards their apartment after a day's activities. The film showcased various filming angles, such as a wide shot, to show the characters' body language in that particular shot (they were seen as tired), and a close-up shot was used to show the viewers the items held by the protagonist in the scene (ex: putting their shoes in the rack or picking up the TV remote).  The editing of the film was done through Adobe Premiere Pro software, which is mainly used for professional video editing. The software was new to me as I am a beginner at editing, I was able to perform the basic tasks of rearranging the different clips in order, mute the background sounds in particular scenes and deleting the unnecessary clips (which reduced the video time from almost 2 minutes to approximately 45 seconds).   This picture shows the final product. Al...

Preliminary task: major task

For my Advanced portfolio, I have chosen the short film task, in which I will be creating an animated film.  Before beginning work on the animated film, I wanted to refine my camera filming angles to achieve the appropriate shots and design for the project. For this project, I wanted to begin with a simpler task, which involved filming a person coming back home after a long day. This is the final product: https://youtube.com/shorts/7VNsuUlyA7I?feature=share The short film lasted approximately 45 seconds (the original video size was approximately 2.5 minutes)

Introduction

Welcome to Media studies A-level advanced portfolio- my name is Mariya and I chose to create a short film as the main component of my cross-media production. The brief required me to produce a short film lasting approximately five minutes, accompanied by a supporting website to promote the film and engage a defined target audience. This project represents the culmination of the skills, theoretical knowledge, and creative development I have built over the course of my media studies. The short film is an original narrative concept that explores Mobile addiction which leads to anxiety and isolation, aimed at a [teenagers and young adults target audience, e.g., 16–25-year-old] audience with an interest in social realism. My goal was to construct a compelling and emotionally resonant story using appropriate codes and conventions of short film narrative structure, animation, editing, and sound design.
