Reflection on preliminary minor task (poster and social media page)

 The preliminary task for the Poster advertisement and social media page was mainly to test our editing and design skills.

The poster advertisement task was an aesthetic poster done for Billie Eilish’s album Happier Than Ever, which follows a very beige and minimalist design. When planning the movie poster advertisement, I was aiming for the poster to look like a Pinterest aesthetic collage (which is a trending method to advertise a particular product or movie). Many people get drawn to movies when they see the plot described and an aesthetic but vague manner. For example:




Using Adobe Photoshop, I was successfully able to compile all the pictures and edit the backgrounds, allowing me to achieve the effect I was going for. However, I had difficulties in overlaps and removing certain parts of pictures I wanted to use, which then led me to not use the picture at all, reducing my options. I will be working on advancing my Photoshop skills to allow me to successfully discard the features I don’t want and further improve on compiling and designing the overall poster to make it more eye-catching/appealing.


Due to these skills not being obtained, I was also unable to edit the social media template I found online, which could make the Instagram page seem more realistic. (Below is the template I was planning to edit).

Research task: Genre

Last year, my team and I created a thriller short film opening that featured no violence and used limited props. This year, I decided to take a different approach by focusing on a more realistic topic. I wanted something that addresses a real-life issue and feels relatable to people my age. Initially, I planned to explore psychological problems like depression or anxiety. However, while drafting a brief plan, I realized the storyline felt predictable and too similar to many projects that had already been done. I then decided to stay within psychology but shift my focus to a different issue: social media and phone addiction. I also wanted to show how this addiction can connect to or even cause other psychological challenges. I found this topic especially engaging because it lets me address multiple psychological issues through a single, relatable problem.
